This is my little man Louis who, unlike his sister who has posing down to a fine art, does not like posing for photographs one bit!
Food allergies are reaching epidemic proportions in Australia and other Western countries. Although, having no food allergies in the family, I was caught very much by surprise when one morning, minutes after eating peanut butter, Louis broke out into hives, his eyes got very itchy and watery and he was visibly uncomfortable. After a lot of testing and other food allergy reactions, we have found that Louis is allergic to peanuts, cashews, kiwi fruit and raw egg. And while clinically speaking his reactions have been 'mild', nut allergies are very unpredictable and there is a 20% chance that his next reaction could be anaphylaxis which is life threatening. Based on his test results, we now have to carry an epipen with us everywhere we go and watch everything he puts in his mouth vigilantly! The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation are working on a vaccine for peanut allergies (and hopefully down the track other nut allergies too). They are very positive about this vaccine and are close to starting clinical trials. They are short of funding which is integral to getting the vaccine on shelves. With the help of Kennedy & Co Accountants and Murphy Financial Advice, we have raised $500 for the Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation. If you wish to donate, you can go to their website; http://ilhanfoundation.com.au/ Hopefully in the near future some of us parents can breathe a sigh of relief! Comments are closed.
